Scott Eyre Retires, Holliday signs for 7

After a solid, 13 year career within the majors, most of them with the SF Giants and PHI Phillies, Scott Eyre (left-handed specialist) has retired instead of signing with the Phillies again, but this time only for a minor league contract.

Also big news today, Matt Holliday has signed a 7-year, $120 million contract with the STL Cardinals. What are my thoughts on this (this IS an opinio blog, too; state yours!)?

I don't think it's the greatest plan in the long run, but knowing how consistent Matt can be, it may work out.

Finally, before today's update is done; Card's Manager Tony La Russa has stated that Mark McGwire (Cardinals hitting coach) may become active AND used as a pinch-hitter! Wow!
