According to MLB.com, Scott Podsednik has signed a one year contract with the KC Royals... Also, Phillies FA Brett Meyers has agreed to a one year, $5 million contract with the 'stros.
The BIG news today is: Vladimir Guerrero has signed a 1-year (Possible 2011 option) with the TEX Rangers. Most likely going to be used a DH, the Rangers have a found a good (offensive) replacement for Marlon Byrd, who signed with the Cubbies earlier on in the Offseason. He'll likely serve as a DH.
Some more info on Meyers:
4-3 with the Phillies in 10 starts with a 4.84 ERA with the Phillies. He also made a lot of Relief appearnaces for the Phils between the 2007 and 2009 seasons. Already with a decent bullpen, the Astros will likely use him in the starting rotation.
Key Free-Agents Predictions:
--------------------------------------
So, BPN, what is going to happen with Hank Blalock?
In my opinion, he's leaving Texas. With plenty of potential in the DH and infield roles, he has no place within the Ranger's organization for the 2010 season. He didn't put up the normal numbers in 2009, so it's likely that the Rangers won't resign him, despite being well-loved by Rangers fans.
Where does he go?
Almost certainly within the AL, and in a hitting enviorment. I think he'll find a place within the AL Central, and the Tigers look like a good fit. They need a veteran left-handed bat, and the Tigers work in a good hitting ballpark.
Quote for the week:
"The hurricane of key free-agents is over. Now it's time for the minor FAs to brew a storm."
